# Server & cloud workload protection

The riskAttackers go after servers because that's where the valuable data is, and because encrypting a single server can stop a whole business at once.

Servers also run software that ordinary laptop protection isn't built for: databases, line-of-business applications and services that need to stay up. Protection has to be strong without getting in their way.

 What it does- Blocks malware and ransomware on Windows and Linux servers, with encrypted files rolled back automatically
- Stops untrusted programs from running, and watches critical system files for unexpected changes
- Protects servers in your office, in a data centre, or in AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud
- Detects attacks on Linux servers as they happen, without needing a kernel module
- Runtime protection for containers, detecting container escapes and privilege escalation
- A lightweight agent designed to protect servers without slowing down the workloads on them

 Who it's forAny business running its own servers, on-premises or in the cloud: file servers, databases, line-of-business applications or websites. If everything you use lives in Microsoft 365 or other online services, you probably don't need it.

 How we supply itBy default we supply a licence per server and you (or your IT provider) install it. If you'd rather hand it over, we can deploy it and tune the policies around your applications at our standard day rate.

 What's under the hood**Sophos Server Protection** — managed from Sophos Fusion alongside your device protection, and it can be watched by the same 24/7 MDR team.

 Questions Will it interfere with our business applications?+Server policies can exclude the specific files, folders and processes an application needs, and we can help work those out. Getting that right first time is worth the effort, and it's one of the things we can do for you.

 Does it work for servers in the cloud?+Yes. It covers Windows and Linux servers in AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud, as well as on your own hardware.

 Is this the same as device protection?+It uses the same core technology, but it's licensed and tuned for servers, which run all the time and host services other people depend on.
